Pursuant to Virginia Freedom of Information Act, I hereby request the following records:
All procedures and policies related to the handling of inmate grievances.
I also request that, if appropriate, fees be waived as I believe this request is in the public interest. The requested documents will be made available to the general public free of charge as part of the public information service at MuckRock.com, processed by a representative of the news media/press and is made in the process of news gathering and not for commercial usage.
In the event that fees cannot be waived, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.
Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 5 business days, as the statute requires.

This office is in receipt of your request for information below made pursuant to the Virginia Freedom of Information Act (Code of Virginia §2.2-3700, et seq.). Operating Procedure 866.1 Offender Grievance Procedure is available on our public website at http://vadoc.virginia.gov/about/procedures/default.shtm#800. If you require / prefer a hard copy of the procedure, please let me know and I'll be happy to forward it to you by mail. The Department of Corrections charges $0.10 per page for hard copies and does not waive fees.

As you note below, you did receive a response from me on September 22. Nothing has changed to warrant an amended response from the Department. Again, the policy responsive to your request is OP 866.1 which can be found using the following link to our public website http://vadoc.virginia.gov/about/procedures/default.shtm#800 which I also noted in my original response on September 22. In the event you are unable to access the internet to print out a copy of OP 866.1 I’ve attached a PDF of the document to this email.
